Onward!

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

So yesterday I turned 25, a poigniant age I’m told, another year for me. It passed in a rather understated manner especially compared to the party Cati arranged last year. Even so it was spent in good company with good food.

A few friends and I went to a pub in nearby Tockington. Cati intoduced/ found it and the atmosphere is nice food is good and relatively cheap. I ordered bangers & mash and for the 4th time running it came a little different. It seems each time I order it it comes with or without something. First time it was just as on the menu, second time it came with peas, then with peas and onions and last night no peas just onions. Least to say it’s interesting to see what I get each time!

Last night also saw United beat Celtic 3-0 which is good though a shame I didn’t see anything of the game. Keeping on sport I’m off to Wembley this weekend to see the 2nd ever NFL game to be played outside the US (I was at the inaugural one too). Should be good as both teams lost last week so should be a game with two teams giving everything to win.

So there we go, got some lovely birthday wishes and gifts. An enjoyable evening celebrating it and things to look forward to; onward!

Going ‘Oop North

Friday, September 26th, 2008

So I’m currently writing as Cati is driving the final stint to my parents house; my iPhone is oh so useful! Anyway we’re travelling there to stay over for a civil partnership we’re going to tomorrow between two friends of Cati. My folks are actually in France but have been very kind and lent us the house for the weekend. I’m looking forward to tomorrow as not only will it be a fun day but another new experience for me.

The other bonus thing is that it’s taking me back to one of favourite parts of the UK. Sunday I’ll be meeting Andy at the Lendal Cellars which is one of best pubs I know in York, I’m looking forward to that too.

Work this past week has been okay, average week to be honest. Can’t really say too much interesting happened as it was just work. No annoyances other than the usual but they’re so insignificant that they hardly warrant a mention other than to say they happened.

So other than that it’s going to be an interesting sport weekend. Formula 1 are staging their first ever night race, Pittsburgh, just like United are struggling and need a win and United now have Ronaldo back. Anyway best go as we’re almost there.

Long Time No See

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

So it’s been quite a while since I last updated my blog here, but then again that’s nothing new. Since I last updated United won the Champions League in the most dramatic way possible, even more dramatic I think than ‘99. Pittsburgh were outclassed in the Stanley Cup Finals by a resolute Detroit Red Wings and of course I ran my half-marathon.

The unfortunate thing is that I was unable to finish, I got to 11.5mi and pulled up as in mind & body I was unable to push myself that little bit more. I was gutted and felt I let a lot of people down. I know I gave my best and that considering my build up probably went further than some would think but I still wished I could have finished. After I gathered myself and look back I know deep down I couldn’t of gone further but it still doesn’t stop me wishing I had. The weather especially didn’t help, it was gale force and one particular part of the course was uphill and head on into it. Either way I think I’ll take stock and will train a lot longer and try again, I know I can do it and intend on doing so.

To today then and I now have a new sister-in-law as on Friday my brother got married. It was a lovely day in all ways especially the weather which was quite impressive when you consider the weather either side. On the Thursday when we drove up it was raining most of the way and was quite miserable. Come Friday, the day of the wedding, it was glorious sunshine with blue skies. Then Saturday, the drive home was through torrential rain and I was so glad that the good weather was saved for my brothers’ wedding. It was a Quaker wedding, the first I’ve been to, and it was quite lovely and special. The speeches at the meal were funny and entertaining and the dancing and disco at night was a riot. If you’re on Facebook you’ll no doubt have picked up the few pictures of me dancing the night away. It was also a wonderful opportunity to catch up with people I haven’t seen in a long, long time, some whom I unfortunately couldn’t remember. However by the end of the night we’d reminisced and enjoying catching up. It also made me make a resolution of trying to keep in touch as best I can with people.

This coming Tuesday is Cati and I’s 2nd Wedding Anniversary however we’re celebrating it tomorrow as for whatever reason I took the day off and Cati is currently on gardening leave as she is switching jobs. Not sure what we’re doing yet but I’m sure we’ll figure something out and enjoy the time together.

The Year That Was 2007

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

So here were are, finally in 2008. I meant to get a review of the year up before we got here but alas I didn’t but there you go. Then again at least I can say this review is that off the full year I suppose. For me, it’s been a year of ups and downs just as any other year but in many ways the downs have been impacted more than usual.

I guess though the main thing of 2007 was the fact that I graduated from University which was officially certified in November. Catrin and I also celebrated our first full year of marriage with a fun party for all and chances are we’ll do the same next year. I saw my first NFL and NHL game at two great venues and less to say I hope I’m able to do something similar this year and Catrin turned 25.

As for the not so good points I don’t really want to go back over, they’ve happened and a partially document here but I can’t see much reason pointing them out. So what does 2008 hold? First and foremost it’s my 25th birthday this year (although it’s a while till that’ll happen) and Catrin and I will be heading to Iceland in the summer. Not to mention the fact that I have a half-marathon to run as well. Then there are those things that you don’t plan for and just happen. What those things will be, well that’s why life is so exciting I guess. As for resolutions, well I hope to lose weight as well as get fitter but that’s what most people list for resolutions.

So here’s to 2008 and a happy new year to you all!

Sorry

I’ve not updated in quite a while have I? Well I’ll be brief as the biggest thing I’ve done since I last posted was going to Austria. However, what Catrin & I did on holiday, has been documented on it’s own site as part of a cool little idea we had of creating small sites per holiday which contain photos/blog/movies etc. You can find that site here.

Aside from that I’ve been panicking about my final year project and generally worriting. Hopefully once all is a little more settled I’ll get back into a groove more frequent blog posts.
