A Wonderful Present

Whisky ftw!

I just can't wait!

This Christmas gone I got a most wonderful present from my wife; a tour of the Auchentoshan distillery and tasting. I didn’t blog at the time as my Christmas post was post-dated but also felt it would be nice to blog about it nearer the time. I’m due to leave for Edinburgh later today and travel across to Glasgow with my brother for the tour tomorrow.

It has been a desire of mine for some time to visit a distillery in Scotland and Auchentoshan was one of them for it’s convenient location but also one of only a handful of Lowland distilleries. There are others I’d like to visit such as Laphroig, Glenfiddich and Tomintoul to name a few but that’ll be for a whisky tour I plan to do this or next year money depending. I can tell you though that it was a wonderful surprise Christmas morn to receive that as a present!

The only downside is that this Wednesday gone I had two teeth out at the dentist. I’m still suffering some pain and the dentist advised against drinking as early as Saturday. I’m going to ignore that advice for two reason the first being is that the only problem it’ll cause me is that it might promote some bleeding but more importantly I don’t want to miss out. I’ve been looking forward to this since I opened the card that the gift was in and I won’t let it get in the way and besides, alcohol sterilises things anyway so no harm no foul eh!

Welcome to 2010

Big Bang Theory

Well thanks to the glory of post-dating blog updates this should appear not long after we in the UK pass in to 2010. I will safely assume that it goes without a hitch and nothing major happened. I will at this point be in London with a view to getting the Eurostar to Paris come New Years’ Day.

It’s been a fun holiday period. I’ve been home to spend Christmas with family, then North to Peebles to spend some time with my Mum & Dad but to also see my brother and sister-in-law and finally a quick stop off in Yorkshire to see Andy. I’m looking forward to Paris too. It’s been a while since I’ve been back there as I visited quite a few times when Catrin was living there. While not my most favourite city it’s a beautiful place to visit. Not quite sure what we’ll get up to but I’m sure that either way we’ll have a good time.

With that I’d like to wish you all a happy New Year.

Merry Christmas Everyone

When the Snowman brings the snow

Just a quick post to wish one and all a very merry Christmas. Like many I’m spending this Christmas with family which will no doubt encompass deep discussions over dinner. Either way it will be enjoyable and a good chance to catch up on recent events. I’m sure we’ll also play some Wii sports which was a new addition to the family traditions after I bought a Wii for Christmas a couple years back. As Mum & Dad have had a Wii for a while now I have no doubt the competition will be fierce.

In closing I would also like to wish everyone a happy and prosperous 2010.

A Look Back

April 22nd, 2009 Pete View Comments

So it’s been a little while since I blogged and I have been a little bit busier than usual. I’ve also not had much chance to get on a PC at work and just sit and blog what’s on my mind. Not completely to blame as I can always blog at home but it helps as discussion at work often triggers thoughts and things that I’d like to blog. I do have a application on my iPhone which connects to this blog but it’s still not quite there for me to use regularly.

Since my last post about OnLive I’ve actually had a wee holiday over the Easter weekend. This was spent in Wales but more specifically in the Brecon Beacons. The weather was lovely, gorgeous sunshine all weekend allowing us to have clear views from the top of the mountains we went up. The peaks we reached were Pen Y Fan, Fan y Big and Corn Du. Cat worked out that we had a total of 1,081m of total ascent which is pretty cool. We had one really long walk which was about 8 miles and one a bit shorter. It was hard work at times as the climbs up often went right up the contours but was still goo exercise. There are pictures up on Cati’s photo gallery so enjoy the shots as some are beautiful.

The other major thing is two of our friends got married this weekend past and it was such a lovely weekend also. The weather held out, the ceremony was lovely and also one of the strangest thing to date happened to me. Here’s the scoop. I drove down to Bournemouth where the wedding was the morning of the ceremony. I got there in good time and once I’d been led in to check out where it would be held, as I was doing the video recording, I went to wait outside for the equipment. As guests arrived someone said to me “you don’t recognise me in the context do you!?” I then turned to see who this was and to my suprise it was my chiropractor! Now I only met this person by chance as her practice was giving free preliminary back exams at Cribbs one weekend and after that consulation I decided to seek regular treatment. It turns out however that she lived with the brides parents for five years! They say it’s a small world but that was just down right amazing. Anyway it certainly created a talking point for the rest of the weekend.

The weekend ended with a bouncy castle after party which I left around noon to get back to see United get knocked out of the FA Cup. It was a shame but in my heart of hearts knew United wouldn’t win the quintuple. So on to this weekend and Catrin and I are visiting my brother and sister-in-law in Edinburgh. I’m really looking forward to it and with any luck we’ll be walking up Arthur’s Seat.

In Other News

As the title says aside from my XBox dying what else has there been going on in my life? Well as alluded to in a previous blog post I was/am quite excited about what the year ahead my hold but I didn’t say why. Well now I will tell since my family now know as do many friends and I’m sure friends of friends. Anyway, Catrin and I have formally and officially started the process to emigrate to Australia.

As many who know me personally will know this has long since been a desire however there was always the stumbling block of money and timing. Well it all came to a head start of this month when we decided we’d waited enough and come hell or high water we’d apply. The economy everwhere is shot so it didn’t really matter and we happened to have funds in place that could assist in our application so we figured why the hell not. So we started things off and then told family. I’m not 100% sure what all their thoughts are as at the moment I’ve just been told good luck and such. I’d rather not speculate so it’s good that the feedback has been positive.

So there we are, breaking old news shocker and no doubt I will keep you all up-to-date with what’s happening on our emigration. Right now Cat is sorting her skills assessment and has an English test 7th Feb I think. Don’t ask why she’s taking just know that it gives more points.
